Bar da Boa

This is a fun little site. It takes awhile to load but it's worth it. For those of you who don't speak Portuguese, enter your name in "Seu Nome", a friend's name in "Nome do Amigo Zoado" (bonus points for anyone who can figure out what "zoado" means; I've been totally unsuccessful) and then your email addresses. Click visualizer for a fun little personalized video. Then email it your friend. If you don't speak Portuguese you won't have any idea what the pretty lady is saying, but you'll get the gist.

FYI: This one might be a little racy for the kids, probably PG-13.

Friday Drive In: June's Disappointment by Palmyra

The new indie rock group Palmyra, which features former Umberto headliner Gina Pensiero, is about to release their first album, Mis-En-Scene, on the i am janet! label.

Web Diversions is proud to present the world premiere of the music video for "June's Disappointment" one of the tracks off the new album. This video was created by artist Jess Snyder, whose video for Canry in the Cave you may remember.

Peeps Arcade Games

I realize this is a little late in terms of seasonal appropriateness but these games are fun even without the adorable Peeps!

Marshmallow Peeps in Outerspace is two great, arcade-style games: Peepsteroids and Peep Invaders. They're pretty much exactly like Asteroids and Space Invaders, and I mean that as a sincere compliment.

So get out there and kill some Peeps!

Feedback?

Hey Web Diversion readers! Two things: I wanted to point out that we added new comment functions using Intense Debate; now you can comment using your Intense Debate account and we now have comment threads, so you can comment on people's comments. You can go nuts!

A good excuse to test these out: I also, as you may have noticed, added Snap Shots to the site recently. That's the thing that makes a little bubble pop up when you hover over links that shows you a preview of the linked page. They're adding a whole bunch of features where you'd now get pop-up maps, profiles, and more.

My question to you: as readers, do you find this stupid and annoying or cool and fun? Would you rather I got rid of Snap Shots all together, left it as is, or added even more crazy pop-up bubble things? I want your feedback, so lay it on me!

Top Secret Shooting Game!

Hi all. Sorry for not having a Friday Drive In last week. We were busy saving orphans from a burning building. Really, really cute orphans. But this week we'll be premiering a new Palmyra video to make up for it so don't be too bummed!

Today for your internet distraction we have a fun game where you get to shoot stuff. Woo hoo! What makes it especially fun is that it's an easter egg on a fashion website, which makes it both a fun find and seasonally appropriate (for those of you who love zombie Jesus).

Go to the Charlotte Corday site and click on the "a" in "Charlotte". Have fun!

Pocket Geek

Now you can have a new online pet: Pocket Geek.

This is a fun little flash game similar to the Sims, really fun for when you're bored at work. Pocket Geek is a developer, working away in his natural habitat, the cubicle. Keep your Pocket Geek fed, entertained, and rested so he can finish his project on time.

You can also enter the Pocket Geek contest: every month until May 2008 there will be a prize package awarded to the player with the highest score. Items in the prize package include a Play Station 3, an iPod touch, and Harman Kardon Sound Sticks. Jams!

Garfield Without Garfield

Move over Meursault, the world has a new existentialist hero: Jon Arbuckle.

By simply removing Garfield and his speech bubbles from Garfield cartoons, the author of Garfield Minus Garfield has created a darkly comedic collection of comics about loneliness in the modern world. This is the sort of humor that makes you cringe a little with sadness while you let out a sort of laugh-moan. Think the British version of The Office.

Dr. Feel Goode: Virtual Therapy

Starz is promoting their show, Head Case (Wednesdays, 10 p.m. ET/PT) with hilarious virtual therapy sessions.

Dr. Elizabeth Goode, therapist to the stars, is more than happy to tell you what is wrong with you and your twisted psyche. Just go through the interactive flash video and answer her questions and she'll give you the diagnosis. You can come back for more sessions and they seem to be different every time (I've done it a handful of times and never had the same experience twice). But be careful: you may not be ready to hear the disturbing truth about your troubled mind.

Gross Science 101

I never had to dissect a frog when I was a student. As a kid I did have to dissect an owl pellet though. This involved cutting open a giant hair ball, pulling the bones of a small animal out of it, reassembling said small animal, and writing a story about how it was eaten and killed by the owl. Yeah. Scarred for life. And, side note, whose job is it to go through the woods finding and collecting regurgitated owl lunch so little children can have nightmares for weeks?

Well, now I can relive that fun experience over again with Froguts!. And I can get that frog dissecting experience I missed out on.

Just go to Froguts! and click on the "demos" tab. From there you have three options: frog, squid, or owl pellet. For frog, dissect the little friend in eerie detail; you even have to pin down his lifeless body. Joy! Squid is kind of boring: you just take a little "name the parts of the squid" test. And for owl pellet, relive my 6th grade horror. minus the whole "write a story" part. If you DO want to write a story about it though, go for it! And then come back here and put it in the comments section.
